I keep both paper notes, and on a flash drive.

The saws that were eating pawls were both being used in felling situations. Those guys will wear out a starter on a stick saws, but killing the high compression units too fast.

It is up and running, tunes out good. I've ran 1 tank of fuel thru it. I am working on a different muffler for it. I have two head bolts marking under the cover. I may fix that. Good power, plenty of rpm. I worked hard the other morning to make a video, it was like 20 degrees, to later find out my phone was set to slow motion. My cylinder head temperature is holding just under 300 degrees with back to back cuts. I'm just playing.

Here is a little update. Roughy two tanks of fuel thru saw actually cutting. Almost 1/2 a tank idling and going thru heat cycles.

Ill mark this down as a great experiment. Really thinking the two piece head would work.


Never seen cylinder head temperature over 295 degrees.

that is the exact location of the scuffing on the cylinder I did. Your porting looks better but I think it may have something to do with the jugs themselves.

the saw still runs well, I don't know if I will buy another though

I learned long ago that once you port a cylinder, no matter how good you eyeball everything. Rub your finger around bevels and such. It's not the same as what the piston is doing idling at 2800 rpm. Let along a 14,000. I had the muffler off and was looking thru plug hole several times. The scuffing happened this morning. OH WELL!

Question the head bolts and the base bolts one in the same? Reason being you may be expereinscelng some slop in the cylinder at high rpms

Same bolts. Cylinder is mounted the same, just secured to crankcase from the top of cylinder.

True story. I have 4 testers. I guess they are all junk. One snap-on, one Actron,one sun pro, one new one from Amazon. None read the same. I've tested against others. It just don't work for me.

I have a Snap On that had never let me down. Checked a 288xp with it that I took on trade a month ago. Saw ran great but only made 126 psi. Pulled the jug off to replace rings but they looked good. Scratched my head and checked 4 others saws with the Snap On and they all made 126 psi. Bad valve core
