China case, bearings, crank, hand cut base gasket. Squish .023. Top end is well used and decent platform for some practice. The saw ran pretty good but didn't hold a tune very well. After a few hours of run time on the porting I happened to finish off the piston. Me thinks it's due for a bottom up rebuild.

Was it a used top end and piston? Either the base isn't square (could be cases or cylinder base) or the top of the cylinder bore isn't square. Id say you are due a full rebuild ....that was hitting pretty hard and a cracked skirt.... lots going on there. I feel there are multiple issues.

If you had .023 squish and had piston to band contact...you gots some legit problems. Big end bearing failure along with what Jimmy said is likely. I'd get out your measurement tools and do an inspection

Many a combination of problems. Yes it's a well used top end. The cylinder has alot of wear and is through the plating on the intake side. With the added wear on the piston it did do a fair bit of rocking. The crank bearings have a tight spot and the crank does have play at both ends not much but it must add up when everything is whizzing about. I'm not very trusting of the squareness of the case to cylinder either. I did have to trim the skirt a bit to sit flat on the case to get it all together. I'll be doing some more measuring when I get some time.

Suggestions for a good aftermarket crank? The one in the saw was a super cheap $14 one. I have 2 and neither scream quality.

I have a cheapish $30 one in a 625/268 hybrid for atleast 3 years now. That saw has atleast 30 cords or more on it. I pulled the topend off before i used it this firewood season to check it out. All is well it even came with crank bearings installed. The bearings say ntn on them and the ad on ebay said Taiwan made crank and bearings but when it came it said maid in china.
