Digging into a counter vibe 4400 that won't oil more than a dribble. Any idea what to look for as I open her up?

Filter is clean. I can blow through it.

Pump seems to work when I turn it by hand.
But this is where I'm confused.
This gear

Just spins on the crankshaft. Is it supposed to be press fit? Or how does the oiler get activated?

I think you found your problem. Looks the same as the one I just had to remove on a 262. It was anything but loose.

This guy is cracked. I put the hose in the oil and spun the pump. Constant bubbles. I pulled the cap out.

If I cover this with my finger, no more air!
So a little sealant and she should be good. I'm guessing that gear is tightened down by the clutch and that keeps it from spinning.
If I'm wrong please enlighten me.

That's why I thought that myself, just pulled a 262 apart myself. But now I'm thinking the above. It used to work fine. And the gear is just way to loose to ever have been tight. I think anyways...

Unless of course it's activated by the clutch.:)

Nope it's not activated by the clutch. It constantly oils. I spun the clutch assembly on hand tight and I can no longer spin the gear.

So tightened down it will be secure. I'm pretty certain now that the air leak was the issue. I was thinking back to last spring when I ran it and we couldn't get it to oil. Just lots of air. Pretty sure this explains it.

Not to thrilled with the way the flocking looks. Time for a new filter. But wow! Look at the size of this carb

Bring it to the gtg. I’d love to run that again. How many cc’s?

These saws are really the cat's meow. That includes my Poulan 400o that I took out and ran today after you posted this age-old thread. Yours might be a little bigger:
My Poulan 4000.JPGA true performer. I really like this saw. Wally World does NOT sell them.
