Poulan 3416 would not pull start. Jerked my arm real bad. I replaced the following in desperation but still not starting. New Cylinder, Piston, Wrist Pin, Ring, Carburetor, Magneto, Clutch, Clutch Brake, Crankshaft Bearings, Flywheel, Spark Plug, Rebuilt Pull Start. The engine spins easily with the pull start off the engine. I put the pull start on and it will pull your arm out of the socket. I am lost for certain. Set the mag at 14 thousandths. Engine is all new parts so I can not figure out why it will not pull easily.

Saws make quite a bit more compression with assembly lube/oil in them after being rebuilt. Not uncommon for this to happen until fuel charge washes it away and it starts for the first time. Should go back to normal after that.

I may be misunderstanding him but the way I understood it is it was acting like that, he replaced all that stuff and it's still hard to pull over with the starter but turns freely with the starter off. If that's the case, it could be that your starter pulley is binding.

Can you turn the engine over at the flywheel by hand with the starter cover off? How does the starter turn off the saw? If both turn with the starter off, possible binding with the cover on.
