I usually scrape it out first, then cut shop rags and tape them to the end of a screwdriver. I then soak them in some gas or solvent and smear it around until I is all gone. You will change rag pieces often...

I normally use mix gas I drain from saws that come in for repair. If the gas is not rotten, I put it in a 1 gallon can for tough cleaning jobs like that. As far as solvents go, I would use whatever you know doesn't eat plastic that is available to you. I have been known to use 99% isopropyl alcohol from time to time.

I'd do the best I could with a scraper or flat head screwdriver and run it. Seafoam would help too with a little soak, but I bet 90% comes out with a screwdriver.

I put nuts and bolts in the tank with Purple Power industrial degreaser and shake the FUUUUCK out of it, let it sit and then shake that FUUUUCKING thing some more. I have tried everything! Keep in mind, I only mess with saws that have been sitting with mix in them for 3 decades until the "goo" is then solid acrylic like plastic.

Chem tool isn't SSSHIT compared to Purple Power and Purple Power is dirt cheap.

Be diligent in getting it as clean as possible. I've done a few of these. Its no easy task to clean it. I am seeing more and more lines in this condition.

Do any of the members here know the source of this "melting" of the lines. I have assumed it was a combination lengthy storage in a very hot place combined with old fuel (or possibly sea foam?)
Is this assumption off base? If so, why?

What would happen if you just filled the tank with straight ethanol ? It would make sense if mixed gas with say 10 percent caused the lines to get gooey then straight should emulsify it .

Just a stab in the dark.

I had to use a pressure washer several times on the tank of a 2100 Husqvarna that sat for a decade in a barn some place in Washington state .I dang near wore the screws out on the carb taking it apart a zillion times prior to that .That little rubber gunk made it through the fuel filter and plugged the screen .No gassy no runny --I cussy.
