I also miss my 55 rancher which was of the same 2 series vintage/overall feel IIRC. It was heavy for it's size but it ran VERY well and was the first good saw I bought w/my own money. It was the gateway drug to my 1st 346xp and MS660 which after a fire destroyed all 3 (and Dad's 039) were replaced by the tools currently in my sig line.

How did your ported 242/246's compare to your ported 254?

I realize that there is a 10cc's difference, but is it worth trying to find one since I already have a 254?
it's quite a bit smaller (feel and weight), aint got near the punch, but they straight up "sing" when limbing.

UMM, WE NEED THIS POST STRICKEN FROM THE RECORD HERE. I get the joke, but this is a serious 2 series thread we got going.:risas3:

Serious very serious!:2guns::camper:

The 254 is a kick ass rock and rock machine.

I figured you felt that way Randy since you talked Steven out of his!:b1:

the story is, I was approached with it, and since Randy had mentioned looking for one of his own after porting mine, I brought it to his attention. He passed cause he was into cows at the moment, and I snatched it up. It goes to Randy for porting and then somehow I use it as payment for other port work. There's been so many saws ported, I can't remember the particulars of the deal. But Im happy in the end that Randy got him a 254xpg. I couldn't have bought it without running it by him first, or kept it knowing that he wanted one. Friends is friends.

A 288xp and 242 would be fun t have for VERY different different reasons, but if I get another Husky anytime soon it ill be a 395xp or 390xp. I need a good big saw around for stumping and for big Hedge trees. I want to like my 9010 but it seems to Hate me and has fought me at every turn. Once I get the fuel cp replaced I will go and flog the hell out of it and see what happens. If we still can't get along, it may go down the road for one or the other (unless I get to run a MS661 anytime soon and am somehow swayed by the creamsickle)...

If you decide to buy new. Let me know. I might be able to find you a good deal.

I just received a 254 xpg in the mail for Christmas with a full box of goodies. Which I already had a 254 fg well and a fe, but now I'm trying to decide if I want to switch out cylinder's, get another one ported or put heated handles on my original 254. I love heated handles, especially up here in Wisconsin.

any new saw I buy from Husq will have heated handles. with the right dealer, the price difference is negligible.

Here is mine in action with a 8t sprocket and 18" bar! Sorry for the back ground noise. I was having issues with my wood truck starting back up.
