Dealing with a few little things. Janky on/off switch, stuck chain tensioner, muffler mod, .060 of freeporting.
Thanks for asking
Be curious if your mod will do more gains than the typical connect the holes into a widened slot on the factory muffler set up that I’ve used in the past.

I don’t really know that it’s a thing. With a big enough hole in the muffler there’s not much back pressure to speak of 🤷🏽‍♂️Yo

The duration of the freeport is probably not long enough to affect it measurably.
You were right, gentlemen. The freeporting wasn't causing the problem, the AM carburetor was. Metering lever was at the right height but was still somehow loading the case with fuel after 10 minutes or so of run time. Running horrible and black goop in the muffler freeporting or not. Quick fix of bending it down a bit and it runs like an 026 ported with an amateur application of a 3rd hand @tree monkey recipe should.

Removed the cylinder and finished up my ported 044. Cut base for a gasket. New oem piston kit. Widened exhaust to the max and raised it 2 degrees. Took humps out of intake and lower transfers. Cleaned combustion chamber…….

How are you cutting the base and keeping the bore at 90 to base so your not side loading rod and piston. Might be an optical allusion but in the one picture the ears look thinner on one side than other like base is angled and not true. And this is just a question not trying to be critical at all, it’s just very important that the base is true because even a few thousands on the base will be amplified greatly at the top of the bore.

I took the same off of how the boxheads at Waiblingen made it. Saw had thousands of hours on it when I got it so figured they must've gotten it right. Checked it with a feeler gauge and a light. Light is pretty thin stuff.
How do you cut your bases?

Did you pick around the threads of the spark plug hole?
Wouldn't take much of a booger where the threads run out into the chamber, to get loose and stuck by a ring or on the side of the piston.
Before mounting the cylinder...
Might run a long reach spark plug in the hole and back out. Then look and feel for anything that pushed inwards and remove it.

I’ll be using my lathe and mandrels like a majority of people when I get time to set up stuff. Busy working at my normal job 12-14 a day and fixing saws on the side. Not much time for my stuff. Wasn’t meant to be a smart ass in any way just wondering your process since it’s pretty critical is all. Weather anyone thinks it or not 3-4 thousands off on base is a bunch off 3” away at top of bore. Also looks like you intend on doing many saws so not quite sure why you didn’t just buy Shaun’s 90 degree tool to make your life easier.

Like Lehman says, it adds up.
We always figured about .017 per inch of distance, for one degree out of square.
I milled tapered bars in an electric motor repair shop and that was my rule of thumb for picking an angle to start a test cut on a scrap.

That’s good was just trying to help and the whole reason to post on here is to get feedback both good and bad along with ideas from other’s along with questions on how it was done ect so others can get some different ideas and perspectives on things. When I post pics of my port work I’m doing I want and expect feedback on the good and bad. If you don’t want feedback and or opinions/questions then you might not want to put up photos. If you do you’ll need to learn to not get pissy and offended the way you’ve seemed to get last few posts and just take it as questions or feedback. And I would definitely buy the 90 angle tool so you can clean the transfers up easier and a little better than the stacked cut off wheels. The 026 may run a long time or it may wear the rings fast and or possibly hook one on the transfer port edges. Maybe they’re smoother in then they look in the photos but looks like the vertical edges have horizontal grooves that could cause issues with rings or plating. Good chamfering is an important step to the port work,at the least without an angle head I’d stick a long diamond ball in my straight head and smooth the edges a little bit. And I won’t give you any more feedback from now on you can get it from whoever else wants to help.

Yeh well, when one of mine magnetizes and blows apart on me I'll remember you said so.

When you get around to porting a saw, I look forward to seeing it.
That’s fine and you can comment on it if you like. I have no problem posting photos or taking advice. Even if it’s negative long as it’s something I can learn. Guarantee my skins thicker than paper machete.

I wish you two would knock it off. Maybe you could PM each other with your grievances; or maybe that wouldn’t be as much fun.
Don’t worry I’m done, I’ll post some pictures of one I’m done and he can post whatever he likes. Was just trying to help like the whole thread is intended for.
