562xp shortblocks seem very reasonable. I haven't been able to find a comparable option for the 550xp or 545. Is there a similar option out there?

no, stihl prefers to pound thee thoroughly. ill bet buying a crankcase, crank and bearings for any saw would exceed the purchase price of a new saw, which is of course their main goal.

My thoughts are that they know it’s an issue. And rather than lose a customer, they lowered the price.

I didn’t use a part number. I googled and ebayed 562xp crankcase. eBay ended up being a few $ cheaper than anything I could find elsewhere

Even if you took the bearings out of the equation it’s still a hell of a deal ( cases, crank, gasket, seals)and saves labor.

It also requires tapping about half of the holes. Carb floor(4), coil (2), little air injector chute thingy next to the fw (1), and the dog bolts all needed tapped

Crankcase on this saw was dry as a popcorn fart. Low hour saw. He’s Gonna have to change his ways if he wants it to last. Blue green colored fuel. I have no idea what brand it is.
