You can always go back in if you feel like it needs more intake. I like that you had a reason for leaving it where it was. Hard to argue with that.

Ha ha, I wouldn't call it a reason, more of a hunch/guess.

How would one normally know if it needs more intake?

I am still learning how to read the saw for what it needs

Runs great, really snappy and sounds good with the baffle gone and muffler ports opened up.

Only problem is the butterfly on the Chinese carbs doesn't seal properly when closed so will need a bit of work to get it to idle under 3000 rpm

Considering it's lucky to have a dozen tanks of fuel through it, has had a tree dropped on it, has sat and rotted in the weather for several years and only is now fully operational again for $200 in parts, I'm calling this a win.

I might have a go at rebuilding the bing but it's a bit of a mess

You might be able to loosen the throttle plate screw, and adjust the plate to make it seal better.
I tried that.... didnt help
I fitted the BIng carn butterfly to the Chinese carb and it seals perfect and allows me to tune the saw.
The internals of the bing carb were all corroded so I just used the butterfly.
