Update: after pulling my hair out trying to explain to a few machine shops around here what I wanted (machine the base), I’ll be sending my new cylinder to Mr. Randy to machine next Saturday. I have a flat piece of metal and some sandpaper but dang I’ve done it and it isnt fun with a bum arm.
I really was trying to grasp distance vs degrees and found this - maybe yall know about it but it definitely helps. Hopefully I’m understanding it correctly - converts crank degrees to mm from tdc if you know your stroke and rod length.
One thing I absolutely did not realize is the scale - it doesn’t take much to move a port a few degrees. When I was in construction after high school, the owner would say “just a blonde one”. Less than a blonde one with this!
Also, I watched video after video of guys porting, and I realized if I had decent burrs I didn’t need to add a ton of pressure. The diamond burrs or a loaded up/dull burr really are the best for a rank beginner like me.
Ive been reading about upper transfers(leaning tower), loop scavenging, case compression and I think I’ll not get too technical with it as I’m just confusing myself. I’ll do just some mild work on the exhaust port and I’ll get rid of the little nubs left in the secondaries on these echo cylinders. I’ll give an update once I send them and get them back from Randy and get a little grinding done : )
