Porting A 390XP Top End For A Worksaw

If you have the idle set too high on a saw with a blue coil in a 372/390xp you can actually hear the saw surge as it goes in and out of advance (around 3,000-3,300rpm). People mistake that uneven idle for a airleak. Just set the idle to 2800 at the most and you will be fine.

So how about the muffler?

I always liked the “jungle” muffler on my 2100 because it directed the gases well away from me (towards bottom of saw) instead of at the log and then bouncing back. But it seems a deflector on top is the popular choice.

It’s in the sequel thread. The jungle 372 mufflers from eBay with a 1” pipe coming out of the corner works good. I’ve done them with 2 1” on each corner.

I guess the only down side to such a big pipe is you would have to be mindful that it did not catch rain in the back of your truck.

I think Walkers in Canada was the first to make that one popular. It does work good and the noise is different than regular openings in the mufflers

I have a Walkers 385 I bought from Shane. It's a strong saw. Don't know what happened to Shane.
