I had some time today so I decided I would get a little practice porting. So far I've set the squish to .020, opened up the lower transfers, took the flange at the lower transfers down level with the base, opened up the exhaust to 68% of the bore size and set the exhaust timing to 100. The numbers I'm going to use unless someone has a better suggestion are, exhaust 100, intake 80 and transfers 120. They were given to me for a 372. It's going to be running a short bar, 18" or 20" and all I cut is hard wood. Do the numbers sound like they would work for a 365? The pics are what I've done so far. If you see something that needs addressed please feel free to say so, you won't hurt my feelings. I also cleaned my finger nails after I saw how dirty they are in the pic, lol.

372 and 365 are the same saw minus transfer restrictions so don’t see why those numbers would be good.

Be careful hogging out those transfers you can loose pressure/velocity if you remove to much.

If they are the XT strato saws its the same jug.

My bad didn’t even look at anything other then the transfers...

I do agree does makes a huge difference taking the baffle out of the xt 365 saws. It converts them to a 372, there is no other difference other than a low top filter.

Well I'm continuing on with them numbers. I cut the intake to 76 then took a little of the piston and its between 78 and 79. I also started smoothing the lower transfers, they need a little more but are almost there. Now I'm just waiting on the right angle grinder I ordered.

365 102 120/122 79-80. The Christmas raffle saw I did was a good runner. I think all the numbers and stuff are posted in that thread.
Thanks for posting that. I read the thread and watched the videos, that's a good running saw. I've cut the exhaust so I'm stuck there but I"m going to take a little more off the piston skirt to get the intake to 79-80 and set the upper transfers to 120. Once I get it together I'll post the results, good or bad and the final numbers. The numbers may change slightly because I'm using an aftermarket crankcase to mock it up.

Why would you cut the piston skirt rather than lower the intake floor? By doing that, you're making the piston less stable in the bore. And if you were to lower the intake floor, if you went too far you can always JB Weld it back up

I did cut the floor to 76 but was afraid I'd cut to much so I cut a little off the the piston skirt. It took very little to get it to where it's at now, between 78 and 79. I did't think that little bit would effect the stability of the piston. That degree more that needs taken off will come from the floor. I want to do it the right way and thought that was an acceptable way to do it.

I did the upper transfers yesterday with the new right angle grinder I got and it was almost to big for the 48mm cylinder. it's not the prettiest port job but it's the best I could do with the tools I have. The final numbers ended up being, exhaust 100, transfers 120 and intake 80.

I got the saw together and made a couple of test cuts. It's running good and it faster than a stock 365. I checked the rpm after the video and it was wot 13,640 wot. I still need to advance the timing and see if there is any improvement. Thanks to everyone for all the help.

I got a few minutes so I advanced the timing 1/3-1/2 key, hard to tell exactly how much, and leaned it out a little. Wot is now set at 13,920. I think it cut a little faster. I'm going to richen it up a bit for a tank and go from there.

That's gotta make you happy @Ronie . Sumbich is scootin'. I think the tune is right where it needs to be for break in. It still sounds a touch rich to me. I like my saws that way for normal everyday messing around.

I am happy:aaaaa:I really didn't think it would turn out as good as it did.

Good sounding saw, I’ve never met a 371/372 that didn’t like a little timing added... you did good you should be happy with the results!

Now the only stock saws you’ll have are loaners lmao

Anyone done similar timing to a open port 365?

BGD comes to around 0.021” never modded an open port saw, unsure how they gain compared to closed port.
