I think the only real difference is the carb. I have a US 420 rated at 2.0.
Well sir…we will know for sure once i have mine and i photo it, then the US and Euro differences will show.I think the only real difference is the carb. I have a US 420 rated at 2.0.
That means the 420 rated at 2.0kw turned into the 420 sc at 2.2kw and the 421 is the same spec . The original US 420 turned into the 421 ? The parts list shows all of them in the family.
Then it surely is a true 18" (+ actually). The reason I asked is that most 3/8" lo-pro/picco bars are an inch or two shorter than "called".
The bar mount pattern remains the same i take it Andrew …just change to 3/8 bar and sprocket . Sthil 3/8 ps3 super pico has been mentioned and iv had a look . Do you think it is the way to go rather than .325 1.3mm ?The Euro model 420 is rated at 2.2kw and as simondo says .325 but it's ea041 bar mounts
I've converted three over too 3/8 lo pro and pro sprocket and rim View attachment 15202
The PS seems to be a chain that US dealers have as iv only been able to find the 3/8 pico PS chain here called ..PS3 3/8 supper pico here . Blooming baffling all these differences .I'd lose the "3" personally....
I can see the 2 chains (and why you would say "Not the 3 " ) in the Sthil catalogue !! I am going to have a phone call to a cross brand part supplier I use to find out what the actual "Facts " are on this one . Ebay listings are just not giving me a truth perhaps.Bummer, but from what I hear the PS3 gives up very little to the PS, bore cuts notwithstanding.
Thats really good of you to post those pics…helpful to see .View attachment 15203View attachment 15204 Here's a picture of a k095 the white Dolmar bar and a Oregon k041, the gray bar. I've laid them on top of one another so you can see how the line up. The K041 has no oiler holes
I'm going to wait until @fordf150 gets the light and tough Total bars in and buy one instead of modifying a bar
I'll have two nice Oregon bars 16" and 18" and even a 20" (long story) .325 for sale then if anyone wants a good deal for your 420/421

I wonder where you could find a lo-pro rim that fits a drum that is suitable for the 420/421?
Picco/lo-pro chain isn't really compatible with regular 3/8" rims - those rims are too small, so it is about like using a badly wore-out rim. Mostly it sort of works though.
Cannon Supermini 3lm are true to size picco barsThen it surely is a true 18" (+ actually). The reason I asked is that most 3/8" lo-pro/picco bars are an inch or two shorter than "called".
This is the thing...most of my smaller saws run on .325 1.5mm (.58 ) as its a very common size here. 3/8 1.3mm (.50) chains are a hole new thing for me .I kept my 421 3/8lp to keep it simple, a rim would be better but a spur doesn't bother me. I don't have any saws that use .325 so no sense i only have one saw with an odd size chain.
That's changes things. Stay with what you can get. This is the thing...most of my smaller saws run on .325 1.5mm (.58 ) as its a very common size here. 3/8 1.3mm (.50) chains are a hole new thing for me .
