picked up a 288xp lite a bit over a month ago. Haven't had much time to mess with it. Pulled it over to feel compression when I first got it...felt great, but could hear a pfssst every time. Decomp at the time, had a plug in it...it was obvious it was leaking there. Some purchased a new decomp valve....it has been sitting on a shelf for about a month, until today...decided to put the decomp in. Got it tightened down good, and still get the pfssst.
Here is a photo of the hole...looks like it is a bit rough. Possibly cross threaded, then re-threaded at some point. As well as the outer surface being a bit rough, and not perfectly flat for the washers to seat against.

Any advice?? Had thought about hooping some red loctite..but would much rather do a proper fix, than a halfass fix.

Bottom tap is about the only way to go bigger. Have to have it in a drill press probably to get the hole exactly drilled. Jb weld and a decomp plug if you don't think you need it would seal it forever.

My 288 needs a buddy....
Hint hint

I would go with the jb weld plug idea.
MMs idea is better, but takes more skill than I have.

Well..found something a bit different than the decomp. How about a hole in the cylinder right at the very peak...very close to the decomp. Soooooo...anyone have a decent cylinder for sale!!?? Lol

OEM may be cheaper than you think with the price restructure.

clean that area up real good, grind a little to expose fresh aluminum and put a nice dab of JB on it and run it.

I'll probably at least hang on to the cylinder to mess with later. I'm 288xp cylinder poor now..ended up winning an auction on eBay, as well as picked up a couple from a member on AS. Got one cleaned up, and installed today. Need to get some fuel for mix to get it started up now
