Little rant. I loaned one of my best friends in the world a 044 permanently. He is not mechanically inclined. There was the caveat that if it needed major work it came back to me. Well he took it to the local dealer and they said it needed a carb and from the sounds of it what I would call a tuneup. Plug, fuel line etc. $400 for parts and labor. Or we have this MS 271 with a 20” bar like that 044 you have for $479 I think is what he said. I was like dude the 028 super I sold you for what I had in it is every bit the saw as that 271 it just has a shorter bar because it’s the right bar for the saw. Anyway he is shipping it back. I feel better now.

Unfortunately it sounds like your friend got snookered by a a bad dealer. Maybe $50 in parts and $350 in labor....that sucks! Glad to hear that you are getting your saw back though.

I’m going to fix it and ship it back to him. Dealer price on a carb is probably $50. This is Stihl we are talking about. But…

Honestly he says it runs. It probably just needs a carb tuning. But he has had it 8-10 years and I might as well go through it.
