I had never owned a Partner before the first unit came about .Never worked on one and had seen very few .It was uncharted territory for me .Stihl or McCulloch I could dive right in but with the Partner I had to almost reverse engineer it to figure out how it was made .It was interesting to see another method of doing things .
It seemed to me to be well made with certain weak links like all saws have in some area or another .They were never popular in this area but the concrete saws were back in the day .Said by some as the top of the pile .Assuming the R440 is in fact an early P100 if you use Husqvarna 2100 bar plates a Husky mount bar will work .If you use the McCulloch bar plates, which they are very proud of then Mac 10 series bars will work .--more
Thanks Al
The R440T is earlier than the P100 , i found that much out maybe LEE H could give some insight to it all
Havent heard much of this saw in Australia either apart from its similar to the Mc 1000

I had used the one example I have running using a 32" bar from a 2100 Husky to drop a 36" dead ash .Originally a 100 footer with 40 feet of top blown out . It pulled it but the saw was sick, needs a make over .In fact my Stihl 038 Mag which is souped and also with a 32" ran circles around it .It doesn't hardly seem right for 72 cc to spank 99 that bad .I mean I know I'm relatively good at it but I'm not that good .
Ive seen a couple of vids on youtube about these saws and they do have heaps of grunt so dont know
well found a 30'' husky bar to run 3/8 chain so will do vid of it cutting when the saw arrives

Going by the two examples I have it appears the Mac model was a P-100 super which has a more robust suspension system This in my opinion is the weak link in the design .If it gets dropped hard the suspension system can break which is exactly what happened to the first P-100 I have .I did a half-fast repair using hard aircraft aluminum which worked but it certainly is not cosmetically appealing .
When I ever get the time to rebuilt that saw I have ideas of how to make a better repair .Which could entail some work with a milling machine .That for me is no problem as I have a Bridgeport model M in my shop .

A number of years ago a fine gentleman ,owner of a very successful tree service and mechanical genius from California ,Adam Clark built a gasoline burning hot saw for a guy I forgot his name .Scott something .It was some variation of a p100 .We couldn't get the damned thing started and it was all I could do to pull it over .It was at a GTG near Meadville Pa. At the time I weighed around 220 pounds and it wasn't fat .I didn't see it run but I guess eventually it did and they say it was rather impressive .At that event I think 4 P-100's showed up ,the most I had ever seen in one place.

Unfortunately, mug and piston of my little Partner 385 aren't in good state:

I'll see if I can change them with a set from a Dolmar 101 hobby, since it's a Poulan Micro XXV as well, chances are good pison and cylinder will fit.

As I recall the R440 is an earlier model of the P100 .If that's true the bar from a Husky 2100 should fit if you use 2100 bar plates which are relatively inexpensive .However if you use bar plates from the McCulloch PM 1000 which is really a Partner P100 then Mac 10 series bars will work .BTW they are very proud of the Mac PM 1000 plates price wise .I have both for my two Partner P-100/Mac PM 1000 models plus the Partner plates .
On the one of two Partner p-100's I have running I've tried both Husqvarna bars and Mac 10 series ,both 32" .The other P-100/Mc SP 1000 is a work in progress I haven't had the time to rebuild .

Dick in a bucket, never heard that before :applaudit:.The bar is most likely a Stihl mount .They make adapters or you could make them yourself which are just like thick washers .you might have to modify the oil hole and tightening hole but I'd imagine it could be done .
As a matter of fact the Homelite 2100S in my avatar pic has a modified Stihl mount 36" which also fits a large mount McCulloch if you use a 7 tooth rim. The Homey only ever came with an 8 tooth .404 from the factory set up .I have heard at one time Oregon made clutch drums for that model where you could change the sprocket to any thing you wanted to but I don't have any myself .

Hi,
has anybody any info regarding the PARTNER R 518 T?
Neither Mike Acres not chainsawcollectors.se seen to have anything.

From the small amount of info I've seen about them, it's pretty close to the same as an r517t, both 55cc.

My P 55,70,7000,85,100 ,S50,55 ,and 65 all have this white plastic shield I believe it is to deflect heat from carburetor.

Variations on a basic theme ....

p_395_clutch-side.jpg

... Partner 395 wich is basically the same saw as my Partner 385 and both are based on the Poulan 2300 and its ancestor the Poulan Micro XXV.

p_395_starter-side-front.jpg

p_395_starter-side-rear.jpg

Engine inside is exactly the same as in the 385 only peripherals are different which make the 395 a backhandle saw.

Don't know yet what I'm gonna do with this one haven't even taken a look inside.
