Hello, used my brother's Stihl ms290 today and when I ran out of fuel and went to fill the oil, the level was not down near as much as I am used to on my saws. I told him, heck, this isn't oiling enough. But when I touched the chain, it was not hot, was cool to the touch. And the saw cut fine. Had a new chain. Any concern about the oiler? I am accustomed to the oil use being about equal to fuel use.

Pull the chain down out of the bars groove after a bucking cut, if the chains drive links are wet/oil covered then You are good to go.
Oil does not have to drip off the bar and chain the moment You set down the saw.

Also, whether the saw will spend a full tank of B&C oil on every tank of fuel depends to a big part on the volume difference of the two.
Pump output and oil viscosity will also influence the above, but on average the volumes of both tanks matter the most.
