Not everyone is cut out for college, I’m not. Right outta high school i went through the State Police academy, graduated and did it for a year. It was a waste of time because i realized it wasn’t for me. Parents still wanted me to try college and i disagreed and applied for a linesman's apprenticeship at DTE but never expected a call . I did some construction work while going to school for a HVAC journeyman's card. Just before I was supposed to take the exam DTE called me so that’s where i’ve been for 20 years. I wasted lots of time and money but found what I like.

I may have came across more bitter than I am. And Brad and Dad are right, it's just funny shaking our heads and talking about the carpet, the trash, and then all of a sudden Dad says that and we both nod. Probably because we both have been there.

He's taking a path similar to yours. After school he ran some CNC machines, then some manual machinist stuff, mostly a lathe. Now he's doing construction until he takes the test to be a millwright apprentice in July. He sure has collected a lot of nice tools along the way! He's moved on from the yellow brand to the red one. He laughs at my smurf stuff.
