If it's truly the case then something is wrong with that crank. Hard to believe it was drilled clean through. Going to be a stinky saw with grease pumped into the crankcase.

The hole at end of the crank isn't through the crankcase but the one I circled does. Seems lots of later 3120 have this concrete saw crank. J.j is right about that. But no one has a conclusion if that should be plugged?
