I remember many yrs ago, Uncle Sam bought a *s-wordt-ton of battery-powered, plug-in/recharge, electric lifts. Some odd ass name mfr stuff. These were unlike anything you’d ever seen...not your typical Genie scissor lifts, 25-ft to 80-ft JLG’s, which we have by the damn hundreds on the flight line. As well as mechanical/hydraulic B-2, B-7 stands everywhere for mechanic use. It took more time to set those POS lifts up and stabilize them, than it did to get the flight control work done. I don’t have a clue as to who approved that *s-wordt...but some GSA contractor made a damn fortune I’m sure on that gimmick. They pulled them all out of service yrs ago, all ended up at DRMO for auction...gubment trying to make a dime back on the millions of dollars they blew. Then they wised up and spent millions of dollars, good money finally, on motor driven wing stands that encompass 90% of an aircraft with the exception of the horizontal stab/elevator, rudder work which still takes cranes and 60-80ft JLG’S to accomplish. Go figger...!
