For climbing the curbs at the mall? An older XJ Cherokee or ZJ or WJ Grand is more capable than 99% of the people who drive them. If you want to be sad, think of all of the capability and high end off roading equipment packed into the Rubicon TJs and JKs that will never even be used. Now that's a shame IMO. I had a beater 91 XJ back in the day that went more places than most people could in a tricked out Wrangler. Learn how to take a vehicle to it's limits, then get the toys to be able to make it look easy.

Put a new brake line on my beater XJ Friday night then broke the bleeder off the rear drum. Getting that drum off was a mfer! New wheel cylinder and spring kit got that sorted.
Also found a pin hole in the fuel line while fuxin around under the hood (whoda thunk a stainless line would rot) Got a temporary fix on that til the new hard line comes. It's a part time job keeping the old girl going down the road but I don't mind pissing with it. If it were my only vehicle that might be different.

My first one had close to 200k on it. The mechanicals were fine, but with our weather and some use off road the unibody started to get loose. I used to tell people it felt like driving a slinky down the road. I had three more after that including a two door with an NV3550.

This one's at 190,000. Came out of lower PA or Jersey so it's pretty damn clean underneath for a 20 year old Jeep. My buddy got it for me at a salvage auction.

Does fine on snow covered roads. I like the front wheel drive for the wife, most times you don't even have to put it in 4 wheel. Plus it's phenomenal on gas.
