Rained out. Got 4 hours in. Called a local guy with ad on Craigslist that has a ton of saws, bars chains, climbing gear, rope, etc. Asked if I could come over and look around and he said nope. Four miles of roads flooded around his place. Farking rain sucks butthole this week.

if you look at the one picture it kinda looks like plywood between the layers of framing so may not be able to but the carriage bolts on the inside
I don’t like plywood as a outside flooring

The plywood really just appears to be skirting around the main structure of the deck. The area to the side where I want to install a screen appear to be cantilevered off the main supports under the tub.

Also it looks like the upper layer of framing is not a structural unit and just built on top of the old framework so not sure how sound it would be with a 6 foot fence in windy conditions or if someone fell or leaned against it

See above, it does appear to be cantilevered and not fully structural. I am not sure that anyone would ever attempt to walk back there with a screen up. I didn't measure it it's less that 18" from the edge of the tub to the deck. In 5 years of being there and having the cedar from screen the only thing that ever happened was sitting on that edge when taking a break from working on the garden.

This.

Set some posts in the ground with cement. Thru bolt those to the rim joist of the deck. That would be incredibly strong. Just drop the posts into the hole, and bolt them to the deck and make sure they are plumb before adding the cement to the holes.

This may be more permanent than I can do here. I (or someone I pay) need access to the under side of the deck there at different times. We need to access the underside of the tub a couple times a year if we are using it and my messed up sump discharge is under that part of the deck.

What I was planning was 3 4x4's attached the the rim with a couple of these 4x8 Lattice panels between them. I will likely get some local advice before proceeding.

The third picture I posted (I'll re-atttached below as well) is a view from the underside looking up. It shows the single 2x6 vertical meeting the horizontal 2x6 decking.

I could likely do one carriage through bolt and have access to the back, a second would have to be a lag bolt through the vertical and in to the flat.

Too many foremans on this job o_O

Good morning saw nuts.
First day with no wood fire. :)
Yeah Steve!
Damn slackers
Get in line
Coffee sounds great
Eww
Good morning OPE hope everyone has a great day today View attachment 241755
Did
Bolt 2 or 3 4x4 posts to the rim joist and frame it in with some 2x4/2x6, add lattice. Should be straight forward as long as you can get to the backside to nut it. I don't like lag bolts much but it's an option.
9,000 bucks later...

Da *f-word... is dat *s-word. I have pressure treated 5/4 oak ply been outside twenty years don't look like that, eww.
Cut the roof off.
Roll plastic across when needed.
Now you have a privacy screen, saw storage, greenhouse, and property de-value'r all in one.
You could even build a meth lab where the engine used to be.
Thats multitasking at it finest.
Genius... have to get you a better job building stuffs. See Gary
Could do posts in the ground and keep it separate from the deck altogether.
:elboinas:
Just putting this out there so everyone knows. I'm never getting in a hot tub with any of you.
Racist

Or predrill the joists ends to accept lags, all thread with epoxy or some other ridiculously overkill screw or bolt. Concrete is for reelz
Lol no they are going to stick with the 10/22's for awhile.
Child abuse. They need at least a 308
Good morning young man.

I gotta give you a attaboy. The way you handle everyone picking on you here is admirable.

More people need thick skin.

PS....

He purdy too...
Kids tough as nails!
Still looking for the right bolt action 22 for my 9 yr old daughter. I want her to learn on open sights, dangit.
Get her an old gun. She'll appreciate the character and that you picked it out together far more than it ability as tool. Nice wood with patina

My lady wanted one, picked her up a MKII Savage. Price was right but it felt less chincy than the current Marlins. She assassinated some squirrels at the end of march before the season ended. Next year I'll mount optics on it and go out with sub-sonics.

I'm leaning towards the Savage Rascal XP. It's a threaded single shot bolt gun, comes with a 4x scope for around $400.

I've already got a .22 like that, a Winchester pump made in 1949 that her great grandmother used to put food on the table in Wyoming with. I'm not gonna have that rifle threaded or changed in any way. Right now, my daughter needs a .22 with a short LOP and a threaded barrel. She's reciting the Four Rules from memory now, so it's time to to start shooting.

I started out with an old Remington pump model 12 gallery gun.
