I wonder why, the one in the shop here is fed from the return line from the house, and it does just fine, doesn't bother the wood boiler a bit.

I think it's because this boiler doesn't have much of a water jacket and I'm coming right off the main supply. The Modine is 91000 btu and the boiler is rated at 100000-110000 btu. I have it plumbed that way because it's a dump zone/over temp protection for the boiler.
