Out in the woods you can shoot the branch that is gonna hit. Use a rifle and shoot several shots about a foot out from the trunk! When it hits it should break there and not roll or split trunk!

Yep I hit some in a line tree last weekend.

I cut a 34+ inch maple on about 40* degree hillside once.
I told the guy to put a cable from his dozer on it so it wouldn't rampage down the fence line.
He said drop it it won't roll.
Well the rotten top snapped off when it hit the ground
And rampaged through about 80ft of fence.
It rolled up like a spool on the base.
