So, on a trip up north to pick up a skidding winch for my tractor I stopped over at Ashokan to look at some saws. I came away with the 2253 over the 550 or 555, looks better, my opinion. I have run it through everything that I have, 4-5 tanks so far. I am running a 16" bar, it was the last Jonsered branded Total bar in the store. My first impression is how smooth it cuts. Doesn't matter the size of the wood, no hiccups, nothing. It seems to take everything in stride. So to compare it, I brought out an old, ugly, Husk 51 that Randy rebuilt and ported. That saw wears an 18" bar. I know I may get banned for saying it, but that ported open port saw runs with it, and easily. Now, it stinks, is faded, and burns fuel much less efficiently than the 2253, but there is no doubt it will run right with it in bigger wood, maybe not in limbing the small stuff. I would still take the newer saw over the 51, just thought it might be better. This saw will probably be seen in Eastern Tennessee some where down Cottle Lane in the near future.

Hard to believe the 51 cuts right along. Sounds like you got your moneys worth when you had it ported.I think I would enjoy running a new Jonsered.

No doubt about the looks, and it feels better in the hand than the 51. Just was expecting a noticeable difference in power. In reality it doesn't matter, I'm cutting firewood, not cookies.

A ported 50 Cc saw should run as good as as a stock 50 Cc saw even if the ported saw only gained 20% from the porting.

Give the 2253 some time to break in, it'll get stronger. And like already said, the anti-vibe on the new saw is superior to those 4 rubbers in the 50/51/55. Wait till you get it worked over! :drums:

I have the same opinion as you, end of the day is the amount trees in the ground who count.
My health is not like when I was young, antivib development on those 550/2253 is after my opinion the best part on new type saws.
Btw, they are impressive stock, do muffler modd it's like having a lightweight monster in your hands, at least thats how my 2253 reacted

Sad to say for reasons unknown that Jonsered are no longer available to buy in the UK !! Maybe we just didn't purchase enough to make it worth there while !

Tomorrow we shall see how it runs with the 18" bar and a new chain. Everything other than the power is light years ahead of the 51, just didn't expect an open port saw (ported or not), to run with this new breed of saw.
