The little local butcher shop closed down by us. One of our grocery store chains is based local. They have stores in about 100 miles. The beef and pork from them comes from a local big slaughterhouse. It's not too bad but the little guy had the best burger.

We only did 850 bails tonight. But I had to unload 2 1/2 loads by myself until some help showed up.
I'm getting to old for climbing up and down the elavator.

I'm glad we don't deal with bailing.

When we did wheat a few years back I had a guy bail 600 bails of straw for me to put in my barn, that was enough of that to last me a lifetime.

I buy round bales of hay for my steers at home.

When we'd do wheat we had someone come in with a big square baler and ten we'd load the bales up on a semi trailer and haul them to a large dairy.
IMHO, round or big square is the cats ass.

We have been selling more and more hogs to local meat markets through the past year, it's been working out pretty well for us. Usually we end up selling 30-40 to them a week.

Fresh dog food must be a big thing for yuppies too right now. We have a local kill floor that only processes meat for dog food. They get a good 20-30 hogs a month from us too.

You have to enjoy doing it! I'm going to be 37 in a few days and can only think of a few guys around my age that are farmers...and out of those few after there dad hangs it up I really don't think that they will be farming.
I'm north of Pittsburgh about a hour and all around me there growing house.... It's hard to see house in field i once worked..

I don't really know how long I'll be farming full time for.

The regulations are horrible and have been getting worst and worst over the last 10 years. Small farms have been dieing over the last 20 years anyway and it's getting harder and more expensive to comply with the bull chit.

How many of you have been put over Randys knee and spanked like in the pic for not buying a t shirt? I'd buy one if they came in any color other than white. I ruin white shirts the first time wearing it. But I don't want a spanking.lol
