Years ago it was unconditional. When I was 18 and working nights, I went to this 24 hour diner after work. The parking lot had been freshly paved. I saw the lights reflecting off something in the pavement. I got a screwdriver and pryed it out. It was a 1/2" drive craftsman ratchet. It had tar and gravel all over and was locked up. I took it sears that weekend and they replaced it, no questions asked. Years later I took another one back and they did what you said. Gave me a kit.

Snap-on tool man story.........

Worked at a Honda-Suzuki dealer a couple summers wrenching bikes. Snap-on Man came buy in the truck once a week hoping for sales. One of the mechanics had a plastic dead blow hammer, the ones filled with sand. It was getting mushroom-like on the head from use. Snap-on Man would not warranty until the sand leaked out.

The mechanic was not happy. The morning of the day of the week, the Snap-on man came by, he put a hatchet clamped upside down in the bench vise. When the truck pulled in he went to the vice and struck/beat the hatchet, until the hammer leaked sand; We were all laughing.

He got his new hammer that day!

Question for all you old tool scroungers out there.

I got an old tool box full of rusty old USA made tools (S-K, Craftsman, Mac, Williams..) for free. Maybe a few sets of wrenches and sockets?

What is favorite cheap/free means to get the rust off? That won't dissolve things besides rust or take off the plating that still remains. Vinegar, Cola/Phosphoric acid, electricity,...? Wish I had a sonocator.

I'll get some pictures later to give an idea how bad they are

I've had good results with Evaporust. Phosphoric acid doesn't remove the rust as convert into iron phosphate, reducing future rust. It's a kind of rough, dark coating, so you might not want that on hand tools.

I've had good results with Evaporust. Phosphoric acid doesn't remove the rust as convert into iron phosphate, reducing future rust. It's a kind of rough, dark coating, so you might not want that on hand tools.

They have "trade secret" for ingredients.

Morning all
It has been one of those nights with no real sleep. I am trying to work at stuff during the day to wear myself out in order to sleep at night .
Sometimes it works and sometimes not. I can sleep really good in the afternoon for a few hours but that screws up the night sleep.
Being retired i don't have to do anything on a schedule which doesnt help but i can't tell my wife because she will start a list of crap for me to do.
Anyway later today i need to go get my concealed weapons permit renewed which involves going to the courthouse. I really don't like getting that close to our "friendly" elected govt officials.
