Fedex falls under a different classification than UPS for some reason. You used to see placarded trucks with hazmat classes running around when they delivered around here but with the new contractors they don't even put the Fedex sign on the side of the trucks anymore. Fedex is an airline that uses trucks and UPS is a trucking company that uses planes. It's stupid really for two companies that do the same thing.

But at least the competition keeps them somewhat reasonably affordable and efficient, most of the time. They could be like the USPS, who keeps raising rates, moaning about losing money, while their service gets even less reliable and less efficient all the time. It used to be unusual to have a misrouted package with USPS; now fully a third of my parcels are misrouted at least one stop and at least a quarter of them take grand tours across the country or around the state before they land. Ugh!

Worked for FedEx for 17 years, they lobby hard to stay under the Railway Labor Act to prevent a union. They also try to engrain it in their employees that the RLA is the best for the ol purple n orange. The trucks that deliver Ground service packages are considered contractors, I think they just do whatever.

FedExs number one customer for the last 20 years or so was USPS. We used to sort mailbags and mail trays during the day shift and load them on FedEx planes. I believe they lost that contract a few years ago.

🖕🏻FedEx - some of the most soul deadening years of my life 😛 It was nice to be able to ship chainsaws at a discount though 😝
