All we had in the house last year was an undersized propane furnace and a gas fireplace (ripped through propane like you wouldn't believe). We froze our asses off all winter. This place was a summer home so heat and insulation weren't a priority. I added a bunch of insulation throughout last winter and more this year. Over the summer I installed a high efficiency furnace and a wood stove right next to it. Much better now. Lol
I'm buying a mini split unit by next winter
My friends electric bill was 50-60.00

My buddy put a couple of those in and really likes them. I have an A coil in the plenum for cooling, works great but not as efficient as the newer stuff.

He installed 3 but only needed one we built his house out of insulated metal panels
Extremely energy efficient.

I used insulated panels on the shop ceiling. May use them on the walls also they're super easy to install.

Good insulation pays for itself. The cheapest energy is the energy you don't use.
I’m always amazed at the different codes in different regions. We are R24 walls and R50 attic. Many I talk to in other markets aren’t even close.

Yeah. Much lower R value requirements down here.
Then again, it rarely goes below freezing, and doesnt stay for long if it does.
We probably have higher hurricane ratings than you though.
Cant forget about the JTF rating. Thats a MAJOR factor.
Jersey tornadoes are FUGGIN SERIOUS apparently...

So are burned out tail lights, leaking seals on forklifts, lost cell phones, all of this in the midst of a jersey ice storm.....

Normal people could not make this sheet up, even on their best day.

That was quite the list of drama. No time for videos. At least he got the 034 pistons in!

Ain't no better heat.

I had a good laugh the other day.

The area where my dad lives, was hit with a ice storm, I called to check in on him, no power for 48 hours. No workie natural gas furnace without power. He said it was 37° in his house, and he was wrapped up in 4 blankets, trying to stay warm. His garage door was frozen shut, so he could not even back his car out in the drive and warm up some.

He's always on my case, to get in the next century, get hooked up to natural gas or propane, instead of living like a caveman and burning firewood.

Holy sheet did I laugh. He was not happy I was laughing. I think he finally understood, why I like my wood stove.
