I like a spool over a real automatic locker if on the street. No surprises when letting off the gas in turns ect. You always know how a spool will act. And strong as fork. My 74 bronco had 4:11's and rear spool. No issues on the street outside accelerated tire wear. Worth it.

That spool will put you in the ditch on a wet road though. I'd rather have an open rear end in my street cars. Drag race machine.....spool.

I had a 72 Duster with a set of 4.56 gears, mini spool, 340, 4 speed. With cheater slicks it pulled so hard that it cracked the windshield, and distorted the quarter panels to the point that the doors became hard to shut. I also nearly crashed it a few times on wet roads. LOL

Yeah... a spool is just great for the street rod. Fat tires, no weight and you can't drive it in the rain or wet. I been in the WV and PA mountains too many times when rain or snow was on the mountain. Spools wait it out on the incline because they have no choice. You never drove a serious road car then. Spools suck and are illegal in half the cars I used to build for street, street/strip and other classes. Being Dqued for sometime as minimal as learning to build a proper differential was never and option for myself. Setting up an open rear with a bit of creative machining to the carrier and knowing how and why it works like magic is the better option. You can put in one clutch pack only or two but they only last so long using an open diff setup. The best option is buying a heavy duty muti-spring clutch pack and removing all the springs imo. If you set up the posi correctly it will work just fine with no chatter and no drag. The thing will be smooth with the right additives. You wouldn't know it had a spool or posi when you pick up the front tires. If it goes straight with same setup as a spool my job is done. Staying on top of a posi is work like adjusting valves for the power tour and chit like that.

No sir that was last fall. All through the right wheel well. Belt, water pump, adjusters, and what nots. It had 132K at that time and was due. Again saved money and burnt vacation on that job. Pulled the front to access power steering cooler hoses. I definitely miss my 78 F250. Everything just seemed less involved for sure.

We had a guy did a blast in his fresh burn out one night at Mcy Ds.

Orange Hemi Valiant twisted the driver side door hinges and spider webbed the windshield. He called us every mfer in the book for beers consumed and egging him on while lol.

An automatic locker or tight limited slip can get squirrelly on snow and wet too. I never had issue in rain with the bronco and I never drove it in winter. Best of both worlds are ARB air lockers or OXtrax cable lockers. And whatever electric lockers there are available. Off when you want, spooled up when you want.

Yep. Installed a truetrac in the front of my TJ. Very nice unit and no clutch packs or cones to wear out.

Did ya see me state "serious" street car. No. Early bronco. Light weight. Small block Ford built for off-road. low end. Stick. Never an issue driving it on the street to and from the dunes up the highway at 70-80 or to and from trails. Illegal? Yep. Gave zero fuggs. You think a cop has a clue? I drove that bronco in three seasons here for a couple years that way. Even to work and back in the city 20 miles away at least once a week. Rain or shine. No issues.

Appears from you building them in your teens? I smoked one rear in my life after stuffing a built 350 into a Chevy monza without upgrading the rear.

My first car was a 75 Duster with a slant. When the first rear end shelled out we scrounged one up from a junk yard. It had a half ass busted limited slip that chirped the tire when backing up and made the car even slower than before.
