I’ve never driven on ice in my life so I’m asking because I have no clue what I’m doing

Well I was going slow this morning and all it took was a little ice and the truck did whatever it wanted so I’m asking what else I need to do.

If it’s plain black ice with no snow on it, there’s not much you can do. The best vehicle and tires in the world lock up and go whatever direction it wants to take you

a barrel off oil isnt enough weight to do much
you have a 2500 with a heavy motor in front weighing over 1000 pounds
you need a ton or close to that for your truck to perform nice

this is why i built a heavier bed factory im guessing maybe 500 pounds
mine weighs about 1200 pounds

100 gal drag up tank full. 30 gal tank on the truck full dually and a 55gal drum added is still not enough?

Negative. Honestly, there are maybe 3-4 "tough" driving days most winters. If I can't make it one or two of them I'll just do the Dallas.

Not much you can do with ice but try to lightly apply power and steer. Brakes are worthless most times on clear smooth ice.

is there a truck scale at your work ? if so weigh your front axle and then your rear axle

Snow chains or studded tires worn down a bit get some bite if the studs don't rot down too short.

When my first son was about a year old, the three of us were headed to town one night and I hit a patch of black ice doing about 55. Did a complete 360 in the middle of the road and kept heading the same direction. The wife and I looked at each other and then back to the road and never said a word.

Nowadays she would’ve been yelling and screaming at me and grabbing my arm and bracing herself

Snow chains or studded tires worn down a bit get some bite if the studs don't rot down too short.

tire studs are junk in my opinion you get one maybe 2 winters out of them before they start poking holes through the tire
on dry roads or uncovered roads they make you slide easier
the only time studs are good is if you are constantly on covered roads which is rare

lol 25 years ago youd see me in parking lots spinning around and doing donuts with emergency brakes

my cousin and me had my aunt in the car once and was doing it and scared her because we was doing it during the day and cars in the lot lol

First time I've had piecreate in the back of this truck. Beat the hell out of the bedliner with a three foot steel rod.

Nasty stuff!... but some noddles in a bag with some saw dust and a gallon or two of water can build you a new road with traction right quick in freezing temps.

My wife was like that when we were younger too. She rode with me everywhere in 11 second street cars without giving a damn. Now she acts like I've forgotten how to drive or something.
