Take another look at the picture - it’s head is twisted. I did cut up through the center.

I do the same on larger bucks. I find that it’s easier to make the cut with a smaller knife. On drives I typically carry my Buck 110 folder (3.5”) for gutting. Larger blades just get awkward inside the rib cage.
It seems like I always catch a rib bone if the bullet damages one.
For sure, it’s almost guaranteed. My cousin almost caught a broadhead in the hand when he was gutting a buck. There was no sign of injury on that he could see, and when he field dressed it, there was a broadhead sticking in the ribs 😳
