Thank God for unions.....or are we against unions now too? I can't keep up.

I'm not a fan of unions.
But that's my opinion and it can differ from others.
They have their good points but they also protect the incompetent and lazy.

I'm just fine with others having opposing opinions.

My grandpa was huge in the teamsters. Got awards for service from Jimmy Hoffa himself.
(The picture of him on stage getting one that was supposed to go to me suddenly disappeared after he passed. My dad thinks his older sister took it)
I know they've done good for the American workers.
I also have friends who work at union jobs and I hear the flip side, the corruption, the ineptitude.

I'd rather stand on my own and fight for what I deserve.
I get 1 more week vacation than anyone else. I fought and bargained for that.
We used to only have profit sharing. I fought and pestered for 401k.
I get an increased pay scale on Cadillac, diesel and wiring. I bargained for that.
Personally, other than take more money from me with dues, I really don't see how they would benefit me.

Some of the farmers here buy them for irrigation trucks. They are affordable. The *s-wordtie part is the 4 cylinder common rail diesel. But the torque out of it is impressive.

20 years ago in my local you had to prove yourself
now international dont care who they have as long as they pay dues
we older guys in the local dont mind if we get rid of the lazy asses but there are some that slip past the apprentice coordinator and teachers
and the guys on the job has to deal with them
i tried to get help last fall and international said i wasnt qualified to get help
short term disability and supplemental insurance
my business agent took a few ass chewings from me and others about that after i put in 23 years
around that same time is when the office dweller got caught so that added fuel to the fire
