That's a dang good explanation right there.The 57 5/16" is the radius, there are 6.28 radians in a circle, so 360/6.28 =57.32 degrees, therefore, there are 360, 1 inch pieces, each being 1 degree. The 1" equals 1 degree only works at the radius of 57.32" which is close enough to 57.3125 or 57-5/16".
