Did any of you *f-wordnuggets notice the sunburst in the dormer gable? Been there over 25 years, and I can't recall anyone ever noticing it.

Never did one , but really like the sunburst. It was the first thing I noticed in the picture. Very nice. Had to look up the layout of the job. Probably many ways to skin a cat - here is one.

I used a couple of radius lines in much the same way as he is talking about dividing it up. Doing it along the rake of the overhang doesn't really work because it is closer at mid point than at level and horizontal.

That's a cool use of math for sure. I was expecting it more to be like the measurement of light bulbs with is done in 1/8th of an inch. Most common lamp is an A19 shape and the diameter is 19 x 1/8ths of an inch. Stupid Imperial system...

The 57 5/16" is the radius, there are 6.28 radians in a circle, so 360/6.28 =57.32 degrees, therefore, there are 360, 1 inch pieces, each being 1 degree. The 1" equals 1 degree only works at the radius of 57.32" which is close enough to 57.3125 or 57-5/16".
