Morning guys.
Hopefully our parts truck shows up this morning as I'm waiting for stuff to finish a 10 speed transmission with a whining noise and an oil pump in another truck. I've got about 12 hours of chit to pack into 8..
you do look like the waterboy
and the guy on there that said

you can do it

They actually don't expect that. We as everyone, are short staffed and spread thin. They know they need me to have the cert, more than I need the cert. It is just that they hope there will be a better time than the present to get it done. Now they have to have me miss a Friday, because they have no choice. They gambled and lost, happens every time. I have been busy doing projects and upgrades every work day for the last 4 months, and doing break fixes too. We cannot keep up. I also don't want to work more than I am, I told them that when I came out of retirement to help them get this branch running.

At least we have hired a couple of green younger people to try to add to our numbers, but it takes a while to get them up to speed, then it takes years to get them really good. Assuming they stay.

What I would like to know, is where is everyone? Every place I see has a help wanted sign! Every place! There can't be so many jobs that we don't have enough people to fill them. How are people getting by if they are not working? Who is supporting them? Our taxes and money printer going brrrrrrr? I have always done well for myself and family, and this is a great time to be starting a career, if you have any drive. Sorry for the long rant, I am just confused by this current situation.

If responding, please keep politics out of it.

Larry

While I agree that seems true, it doesn't explain where everyone went, or how they are getting by. I am missing a key piece to this puzzle. Are people being paid to do nothing?

Years ago multiple generations lived under a single roof, and that was normal. That sort of thing is making a comeback, at least from where I'm sitting. A single income family is having a hell of a time staying afloat these days, and a lot of people are unable to afford to work. I know, that sounds crazy. But if you don't have a dependable car, and live out in the sticks, imagine trying to acquire a good car, buy fuel, pay insurance, pay rent, get groceries, etc. I see a bunch of younger people who fit into this category. Can they do better? Well yeah. Will they? I doubt it.

Have you considered there is also a housing shortage? Both things can not be true. If multiple generations are living under the same roof, there should be plenty of available housing. The math is not adding up. I know I shouldn't worry about this, but it bugs me. Maybe people are going to Galts Gulch!

Housing shortages ain't a problem out here in the sticks. There are lots of people who are moving out here to escape the city, but they are having no real problem finding places to buy.

As for what goes on near the city, I have no idea. But I can imagine housing millions of people piling into a concrete jungle would be an issue.

I guess the puzzle remains unsolved, for now. I wish more people lived in the cities. LOL

You got something good going on with your grandson. Living on the same property creates strong family. It’s common around here, 2-3 generations on the same property. When the time comes for me to be grandpap, it would be my pleasure to have my grandson start out his adult life out on my farm so I could coach him and teach him everything I know.
