We never hunted pen raised birds either.I grew up hunting quail. wild quail.
We hunted the same coveys for 15 years , take a few and move on.
Farmers then took out fence rows and left no borders fallow.
Then night hunters for deer and trespassers got some farms closed to everyone.
I still take about 10 quail a year to eat.
Many years ago i bought a 20 gauge Parker side by side. Walked down to the field edge to find the afternoon covey and got lucky.
First shots with the gun got me a double, 2 shots 2 birds.
My wife had never eaten wild quail. She was a chef in a high end resterant had pen raised quail on the menu.
After she tasted the wild quail next to some pen raised she was ready to fight for my wild bird.
You can't do better than nature.
So what bird is quicker out of the flush?? Our Ruffed Grouse are very quick and surprising.
Never hunted Grouse, but accidentally stepping into a covert of Bobwhite quail will make you chit yourself!
Theyre everywhere and then nowhere within a second. Explosive.
We never hunted pen raised birds either.
My grandfather knew everyone for miles around, and noone minded him hunting their land. We always took care to leave it as good or better than we found it.
Fixed a lot of gates, fence, and helped with a lot of cattle.
Now everybody is afraid to let people on their property because some trash it and others would sue if they got hurt.
Times have definitely changed in my lifetime, and not for the better.
AffirmativeRuffed Grouse fly up in your face too and you get 1 shot maybe and its gone
Quail go all directions when flushed or spooked. They will also run on the ground sometimes, so a second dog trained to go in at a right angle helped.Ruffed Grouse fly up in your face too and you get 1 shot maybe and its gone
Used to be a balance Tim.Sure miss them days of hunting with a pointer or flushing dog. I mean a real good dog and pheasant hunting. Like you said Brent times have changed. Farm raised pheasant just ain't the same. Those birds can run on the ground too!
Well that Bambi failed to comprehend what the DODGE on the front of your truck really meant huh Big Mark.Evening boys

they expect you to do that *s-word on your own timeOh, and good morning all. Friday is here, have to take a recertification exam today so staying home. Boss didn't want me to, but it expires Sunday, and he needs me to have it on Monday. Why they don't think ahead is beyond me. I have been on him about it for 2 months.
They actually don't expect that. We as everyone, are short staffed and spread thin. They know they need me to have the cert, more than I need the cert. It is just that they hope there will be a better time than the present to get it done. Now they have to have me miss a Friday, because they have no choice. They gambled and lost, happens every time. I have been busy doing projects and upgrades every work day for the last 4 months, and doing break fixes too. We cannot keep up. I also don't want to work more than I am, I told them that when I came out of retirement to help them get this branch running.they expect you to do that *s-word on your own time
id tell him to suck a big one
but he probably already does
