lol if i get the tractor ill get a 8 foot brush hog
found a 4wd john deere 2940 at a decent price but ill have to go look at it sometime
Not trying to start chit.
All makers now have issues.
JD just has a bit of a disconnect with the end user, especially on used equipment.
Keep that in mind. They try to keep replacement parts away from the aftermarket, and arent the easiest to deal with when you need something. Just my personal experience.

+1 on the Monza. Also some V8 Cutlass and Chebby Monte Carlos. Why da fug would they make chit so hard?
Ferds no different nowadays.
All made to sell, not work on.
Ed and the rest of the "true" mechanics out there busting knuckles on stuff now have my complete sympathy and respect. I give some chit, but I know they earn their money.
One of my most frustrating projects was taking out a 170 inline 6 from my 74 bronco and putting in a built 302. That *s-worde was nonsense. Cutting *s-worde off the frame to weld different *s-worde back on. Different core support ect. Wtf ferd? Man I loved that effer once completed.

I somehow managed to break off a steel line and it evacuated lots of hydraulic fluid now. Like it stopped moving.

Ok, you want somethimg wif a little more hearse purrs. Got it. Maybe a nice 6080 Allis Chalmers FWA? That would be a solid tractor for your area. Good motor, trans, rear, hydraulics, etc. Parts are still available(thanks to the ole interweb), and folks are easier to deal with. Also would have a cab in most cases, though open stations were made. They were solid units. A lot like the IH stuff of the early 80s, they were ahead of their time. JD lucked up by not investing too much back then. Only thing that saved them.

Cousin has a 2040. Same era.
Eats bearings in the transmission and rear section(among other things). Not bearings you can find at your local bearing house either. JD has been in business this long by making it impossible to get ANYTHING from ANYONE BUT THEM.
Not to say some redneck ingenuity cant get around some of it, but if its motor, trans, hydraulics, lift, then its gonna be OEM or nuffin.
Get whatever works best for you, just understand you may have to pay for it how it best works for THEM.

Dey made dis one in a FWA.
That would be a BAD MOFO.
I know, the 4 letter word, but it had New Holland on it too.
That thing is a Low Profile model. Its a BEAST. Never stalled it. Always breaks traction or whatever its pulling or pushing. Sometimes it's the implement or the loader...

Or a 3000 where the whole damn thing was a PITA. Just werent built heavy enough for what they claimed to be.
Dont even get me started on Select o speed transmissions. Good idea, not enough research.
