I’ve used well seasoned, bark-less pieces/chunks several times over the years and never had any problems with it on ribs, butts, whole birds, etc.

Pffft, as if a little stench would slow you down from inhaling a meal into that gut of yours. Lol

Morning guys. Getting ready to go back out and load up the snowblower’s in the truck and go blow some snow. The oldest son is helping this year so looks like he will be making half the money.

Bradford pear trees are the stinky ones...

@Hinerman nailed it. It was Bradford that I had tried. Lots of folks planted them as yard trees around here. Nasty little trees.

I’ve seen the pungent taste with folks trying Bradford before but I’ve never used it. Bartlett is just a little stronger than apple wood…to me it kinda bridges the gap btwn a hearty, smokier fruit tree and getting into the oaks, hickory, pecan, etc.

There are tons of those down here. We had 3 or 4 when we bought this place. All gone now.
Bartlett pear, that Jason just got rid of, is actually a fruit tree.
Bradford pear trees are just a flowering tree. The "fruits" dont get any larger than a marble.

For some reason unknown to me, subdivision developers, etc couldn’t fill lots after clearing with them worthless damn Bradford pear trees quick enough. Don’t know what it is about the damn things, but they attract lightning to no end…can’t tell you how many big ones I’ve seen over the years that got nailed by lightning.
