I don’t want him to have to work hard like me, I’m also paying for him a really good education. He goes to private school. And he will go to college. Our agreement is if he does not go to college he is on his own
I think he’s gonna get a good scholarship that’ll pay for a bunch of his college funds if he’s a straight a kid

my cousin did that *s-word
now my cousin pays for all the gncc races the boy goes to
the boy doesnt have a real job but was a temporary driver for ups for the xmas extra load
the boy lives at home and hes 23 or so now
and still only thinks about doing the gncc stuff

tell me how that makes them better
How do you know if he would have joined an apprenticeship program or something that he would have followed through? A lot of it is on the kid too. My son is very dedicated to making good grades and learning

hes had the apprenticeship thing asked of him
said it would interfere with his racing and said no
so pretty much sucks his parents dry when races are atleast a grand per race

Here is how I see it...if a kid wants to go to college there are a few things that must be true. 1) They need to know what degree they are going for before starting 2) They need to have a vocation to fall back on if college don't work out 3) They need to have skin in the game for paying for school (if not paying for all of it).

I've told both of the kids the first two years of college is on me. I've worked my tail off for all of their lives and they've seen it and both have a pretty damn good work ethic. My daughter has chosen remote learning for the rest of this year so she can work as much as possible and still carries honor roll grades. She gets a pretty long leash from me. My son, whom a few of you have met, also did well in school but not so much at CC. After a second partial semester of failure we agreed it wasn't working and he did what he really wanted to do and entered the full time work force. After a couple of different ideas he's settled into a millwright apprenticeship where he can work as much as he desires. And he is. I'm almost certain my daughter will wind up with at least a bachelor's degree, but not because I'm making her. She's just driven. A hard worker. They both are.

There is no one right path for them. You show them how to work and support them the best you can. I tell my GF after middle school I just want to be the bumpers in the gutters at the bowling alley.

YMMV.

You’re a good dad Tim! I’m sure they appreciate you.
