How does a non Stihl guy tell the difference between a 066,660 , piston is 54mm. The tag is missing on the air filter cover. Has 1122 ******on several different parts. No floppy caps. Piston and cylinder are extremely scores and lots of transfer. Thanks for any input

IIRC, an 066 (1) has smaller cylinder hold-down bolts than a 660 (2) the flywheel nut off an 044/440 will fit an 066.

@jmssaws

I think the MS660 started with flippy caps. 066 had regular caps.

When Stihl switched the models to MS all the saws changed to flippy caps with the MS660 being the exception . This was in around 2001 .
The new saws sat in the warehouse till the old style were gone .

I was close with the MSxxx series for Flippy caps. Lol
I have a MS440, not a MS660. Lol
Close but no cigar.

I had an old 066 with the small crank and metal flywheel. Still got the flywheel out there. And the coil too. The coil was different, I think it is like a dogleg style coil, IIRC. 066 to my knowledge is just like dall explained. The later 066 had the curved tops and screw caps before they changed to the 660. So parts should interchange betwwen the two.

I'm looking for a flywheel.

There is many variations of the 066/660
The very first 066's are a 064 with a different oiler and flywheel and starter.

Have you got a flat top or bubble top?
Does it have a orange stihl badge in the middle of the starter or is stihl cast into the starter under the handle?
