I saw the 390 p&c. $125.00 bucks. Not a bad price but I still have to come up with a crank, bearings and seals. Budget is somewhat of a factor like always.

Thank you for your input everyone.

Yeah, that's my OEM cylinder kit in the classifieds. I bought it by accident. It's too expensive for me to use refurbing a saw but for the "gotta have OEM" group out there, it's available. I always use the Farmertec parts doing these saws (and I've done quite a bunch of them)
Not sure if I have any extra cranks/rods for this series. I have a bunch of unassembled parts but not sure of the ratio of engines to saws... I'm short on wrap handles right now but have a couple completed saws in inventory so not pressed to complete any at the moment.

I put a 20" laminated Narrow Kerf bar on my 029/390. Not only is it lighter, but it handles very well. It is 'tail heavy' so both arms support the weight of the powerhead. It makes it feel lighter than it is.

Oh yeah, with the cutting angle of the chain at 6 degrees, the saw cuts around 15% faster with the NK chain than with a 3/8s chain. I run an 8-pin, but it can pull a 9-pin, I just have to stop using it as a bucking saw on Ozzie hardwood.

These are crap saws, but they can be built to work very well.

After ditching the clams and now running only ported pro stihls, I was shocked to run a stock 029 recently.
I kept checking to see if the chain brake was on
Do a muffler mod and trim the carb stops and watch it come alive. It will never be an 044, but it will definitely run better.

I really want to make a stroker using an 1128 series rod and popping the crank apart the stroke is 2mm difference. I dont know why this *pretty boy ideas pop in my head but I cant help it. So if anyone come across a smoked 044 440 rod let me know and I have the mean at work to make a bushing for going to a 10mm piston pin.

Early 044s had 10 mm piston pins, but I think the case will work better (and can be more easily modified) in a 044 case. Also don't know if the crank throws will clear the clamshell. Things are pretty tight in there.

Also, since you can not adjust the jug, how are you going to accommodate the addl stroke? Did you check if rod length is the same?

I have no idea on any of that yet. Bit after seeing dieselfiters stroker crank thread I figured I could pop the 1127 crank apart andtry to fit a 1128 rod on there. Bit of some had a 1128 rod length handy that would be great.
