Anybody had any luck with these knock-off Oregon grinders? I've never owned a grinder, always filed. Not sure I wanna be $300 into something I won't useView attachment 29963
Chainsaw tools and accessories can be fairly pricey, I was given a $130 Oregon knockoff 5 years ago very similar to the one in the pic you posted. I have replaced the lightbulb twice @$3 a globe. The grinder has ground 100's of feet of chain in every gauge & pitch other than 3/4. By far it has been the most use full saw related tool I have. If it had cost 5x the price it would still be worth every penny. I've replaced the wheels in every size but even the three wheels that came with it ground a hell of a lot of chain (one exploded one day). I can grind work chains in 8"-24" in under 5mins per chain much faster than with a file with dead accuracy. Like filing your speed/results are only as good as the operator and practice/experience dictates how well one uses the tool. For the money, these grinders cost and what they are capable of its a no brainer. I have since purhased a spare (still in box) & a Windsor (tecomech) as replacements as the knockoff I have has done so much work. But I still use it near every day, the black writing on the degree plate (top plate angle) has worn off but I know where to set things.
