My muffler broke around the outer bolts so had to get a new one and mod it.
Here is a pic of the old one and new one pre mod. I am just a hack so they aren't pretty

The old one I took a 3/8 drill bit and made 3 holes the 2 new ones twisted as they went through deforming the holes.

The new one I couldn't find my drill bits so used the dremel I now have and cut the hole.

There doesn't seem to be many pics of mods for new people to see on here or I can't find them. Figured I would put mine up since I had to redo it.

I did a real rough m-mod on my 260, and cos it was so rough I got a new f-tec but I've still to get round to doing the new one. I was contemplating another hole and a deflector, like red97's ones.

How big should you go on a non-ported saw?

I read a thread on AS where the author had done some extensive tests on a 260 and how much to open up the muffler when modding. IIRC the best gains were at around 80% of exhaust port. Which I think he said was around 3 3/8ths holes.

Less drag on one large single port vs smaller multiple ports.
I’d rather have one and done

IIRC the 3 3/8ths was the amount to open up I tried to open it up about the same but as one big area. The tune was not far off if any when I got the new one on.

I think you’ll be fine with what you did.

You could open square and just move the screen retention screw hole towards the PTO side of the cover. Then slide a coarser piece of screen in.

For a non-ported saw, I think you’re ok with what you’ve done already though.
