So, I'm out picking up carry out and I get a text from my wife, "Al called from the chainsaw forum. He finished your Header. Go to the forum for pictures"

Al that looks awesome. That is really impressive. Those numbers sound great. I can only get the photos so large on my phone so I'll have to check them out later on my laptop. That is totally going to let my saw breath. Thanks for a great jug. I wasn't sure where I would bolt the header too.....

No XP sticker. I think that this will be a sleeper with the metal 034AV badge

Al, your work looks even better on a big screen. That's a lot of work and wish I had your skills. Thanks again.

Glad you're happy Pat.

I can't wait to see it run.

I have to just double check every single bevel about 20 more times (OCD) before it leaves here.

Those metal air filters make a huge difference.

I hope you took a video of the saw cutting as a stock 034 before you disassembled it.

Updating progress on the conversion. Al sent me a picture of the deflectors he's welding to my oem MS360 muffler. Dave sent me my decomp plug so I can run it as a sleeper under the 034 covers with a bit of careful trimming. image.jpegimage.jpeg

Pat,

Your muffler is done. Piston Windows cleaned up.

Flywheel key next, then she's heading to you.

Anyone ever see these casting flaws on the skirt edges of an OEM piston before?

That's the 036 cover you're getting also.

All of the screen is wide grid stainless. The factory screen was replaced with it, and a piece was braze to the inside of the muffler under the new deflector.

I'm not liking Tig brazing. It comes out sloppy.

309 stainless wire from now on.

I'm trilled. It's a solid oem muffler and it's going to function great. No one's going to eyeballing the inside while its running.

I received my Drf255 ported 036 in the mail yesterday. I'll talk about that a little later.....It's been a while since I shared about this project so I want to catch everyone up.

This project began around Thanksgiving. I was in the market to buy a Dolmar 6100 and sell my super clean 034AV. The more people I spoke to and the more research that I did made me rethink selling. I saw that Al @drf255 was looking for 036 cylinders and PM'd him. He suggested I build a 036 out of it and have it ported. Al generously offered his services, we agreed on a price and I searched for a 036 cylinder. I started to gather parts (oem piston, wire air filter, decomp plug, etc.) and had many conversations. The project and my excitement to have my first ported saw was gaining momentum and then my wife was rear ended two days before Christmas. The other driver, drove off and we were left with a busted up car and a deductible that I had to pay. Merry Christmas! (at least my wife was not injured). I told Al that I'd have to put the project on hold for a while and to my complete surprise Al said, "No charge, Merry Christmas." Now things like this do not happen to me and to say Al made my day is an understatement. Besides being extremely talented, he is an extremely generous and thoughtful man.

Since I am not a porter, machinist or mechanic, my limited skill set did not make the project easier for Al (but that is a different story for a different thread), however he was great with sending me pictures, walking me through what he was doing and being a man of his word. If you have the opportunity to have Al build you a saw you will not be disappointed.

Ok, here are some more build pictures. Al feel free to jump in and give more details.
