I'll second (or third or fourth) the Husky 50/51/55 series. They made a lot of them and there are a lot of aftermarket parts so repairs are cheap. Also, they are very easy to work on when repairs are needed. And of course they have magnesium crank cases, are built like tanks, and they do shrug off abuse.

Some deals popping up today ( I think?) Efco MT4000 with claimed 6 hours on it (bar doesn't show any wear on paint at all) with a new carb freshly installed for $100? I don't know if I've ever even held and Efco? Have heard good things...

Don't buy it, far too fishy. My guess is someone's rebuilt it after something went badly wrong, but you don't know to what standard it was rebuilt or why it went tits up in he first place. And why would a saw with 6 hours on it need a new carb?

Those 025s are good saws. Not pro models, but they aren't as flimsy as many other homeowner Stihls. My neighbor has an 025. It's her only saw. She has cut about 2 cords/year with it every year for 15-20 years without any problems.

I'd definitely prefer a pro model stihl, Husky, echo, efco, Shindaiwa, etc, but for $125, an 025 would be a pretty good starter saw.

I'm not disagreeing with you here, and I have no idea when that model was introduced, but...

It's possible the saw was purchased 5 years ago, used for 6 hours, and left with ethanol gas in it. A carb kit or a new carb might be needed after that.

I agree that it is fishy, though and should be thoroughly checked out. The buyer should also be sure where to get parts before purchasing.

Yeah but $100 on a new carb? I call *B-S...., carb kit costs what, 5 dollars?

I'll concede that I'm a cynical bastard, but when buying saws you've got to be as most folks selling a saw with "a history" are lying about something in my experience, better to be safe than sorry

Here is the Efco ad on CL: https://columbus.craigslist.org/tls/5816452107.html

Trying to get the guy with the 334T to answer my emails. Sounds like all it needs are some new pawls or spring. If blown, can buy the 38cc P&C for $99.

I'm slightly distracted now after deciding this morning to get my old SRM-2601 back in service. It's sat so long the metal on the fuel filter was disintegrating and piling up in the bottom of the tank. Carb in Dip, all new rubber being ordered today.
