What about the SD - 455 firebird too?
Well those SD Ponchos were definitely the last of the strong factory cars that you could buy at the dealer in the 1970's. Worth a mint today as a collector.
1975 as a 17 yr old faller I bought my foremen's 1970 1/2 Formula 400 quarter mile track car and I drove it on the street without killing myself. Lol
Engine built by funny car builder Vern Moates out of Des Moine, Iowa in 1973.
Ram air IV 400 bored out to 448ci 12.5:1 compression, solid lifters ,originally setup on alcohol. Dynoed at 600 horse.
Rock crusher M22 with Hurst verticle gate, 430 rear.
Best times mid 11's full 1/4 mile...them were the days Lol.
I ran it on the street converted to gas and 50W engine oil.
Was a pretty proud kid with a fast classy black firebird with white LT1 scoop. 15" A78 volkswagen tire s on 5" Crager SS on the front L60 Micky Thompson on the rear.
First wife burnt all my car pics, my brother has some pics but I never bothered with them, just don"t want to get the expensive bug again. Saws are enough for me.
