It’s really simple. It’s correct to name it 462 cause it’s playing in that class. Nobody worried for 2-3cc it’s completely ridiculous.

462 erased from the map 3 saws: 362,441 & 461.

241 afterall is a brilliant saw but BIG NO for the forest.

So the line goes from 261 up to 661 (all with 6 included)
462 got rid of 3 saws ya say ? 362,441,461 ? Well ...maybe .... I wood need to see the long term durability of said 462 before I make ANY moves ... I just can’t see it as a viable replacement for the 461 especially a ported one ... if you look at the designs from a potential performance aspect the 462 comes up short compared to the 461 ... that being said : to each his own !

Still trying to wrap my head around the 462 nomenclature. Shoulda been a “442” in actuality by displacement. Woulda been a cool muscle car reference as well.

Am I mistaken in that 440/441 were 72cc and 460/461 77cc?
Your right in what your thinking. But my guess is with a 5cubs ms500i around the corner, Stihl want to faze out both the 441 & 461 and in there place have a light 70cc class 462 & a state of the art ms500i (new pro saw class saw). The 462 has less weight than a 441 with more power than a 461 thus hitting them both on the head.
When moobs has both these saws on the bench for discussion, that's when things will get interesting for me. Not so much the mods/porting but the perspective of someone that takes apart & assembles 5 series & 4 series more often than I eat breakfast. So little mynute details & design changes won't escape his eye. Also understanding 'why' design changes have been made by the engineers teaches us much about our saws. Both these saws are serious model changes not a simple facelift with a new badge stuck on. I think both OEM's have heard our voice & attempted or tried to give us what we want along with the other legal bodies like EPA etc. I say don't sell your 7900, 461 or 372 just yet (I hate selling nice saws) but let's take a good look at what the major 2 are doing with their latest pro saws...
