440 is 71cc/462 is 72cc/572 71cc... 50mm bore 36mm stroke 440... 52mm bore 34mm stroke 462... 572... 48mm bore 39mm stroke
OK. So 572 has smaller bore, bigger stroke. And 462 has bigger bore, smaller stroke.
Should be interesting to see how all this works out.

462 should rev a tad higher, 572 should have a tad more torque.

Still trying to wrap my head around the 462 nomenclature. Shoulda been a “442” in actuality by displacement. Woulda been a cool muscle car reference as well.
Am I mistaken in that 440/441 were 72cc and 460/461 77cc?

Stihl threw us a little curve ball.

This could be a potential land mine for Stihl as the average consumer are going to look at the model number and assume it is a direct replacement for their older nearly 80cc saw. If the 462 doesn't at least match the 460/461 for "lean on" torque i could see a lot of disappointed customers back at the dealer calling it a dud.

Hopefully not a landmine. I'm rooting for the 462. I like everything about it, but not sure if it's gonna be what the 461 is.

I think we're going to have to throw the saw numbers out and judge by cc's. Only real way to base it on.
If Stihl's plan was to do away with 441 and 461 and come out with 1 saw to replace both then maybe they should have made the saw in between both and numbered it 452. Something like a 75cc saw. Just my 2 cents.
Send all unwanted Stihl 462s to me ASAP.

Stroke ain’t everything (a 395 has a 660 beat with a long bar for example... despite having a shorter stroke, probably because the rotating assembly/flywheel are heavier and the solid port timing with quad ports). It does help the torque having a longer stroke imho all else being equal.

It’s really simple. It’s correct to name it 462 cause it’s playing in that class. Nobody worried for 2-3cc it’s completely ridiculous.

462 erased from the map 3 saws: 362,441 & 461.

For those who still wanna play with those useless 2-3cc’s the Ms500i is on the way!!! Oh and the name 500 doesn’t mean anything! But who really cares!!!

Maybe they use the “6” number for ALL PROFESSIONAL LINE like Smith & Wesson used it for indicating their stainless Revolvers.

241 afterall is a brilliant saw but BIG NO for the forest.

So the line goes from 261 up to 661 (all with 6 included)

It's just a number.....

Right?

Like when I see a Husqvarna with a 5xx I automatically assume it's gonna last about two weeks before it either flies apart or refuses to start.

:tiburon:

Lmao!!!! Oh and don’t forget companies can’t give names and numbers that already registered and belong as trademark to others.

PS i know nobody who dares to go into forest with a Husky 5 series to cut wood... small country but not so idiot people

Not equal though. 3ccs does make a big difference.
Let's start comparing 660 to 390.
Same size right???? [emoji16]

The 660 is actually 3 cc more than the 390 (91 vs 88).

The 660 is probably stronger stock, but both ported are pretty close. It depends on how bad the port #s are to begin with in the 660 if I had to guess.

They are both turds stock. People who start using ported saws to fell timber with never are happy with stock saws again.
