Looking at the IPL, I notice an insulating pad that goes under the muffler. Anyone know if this is made out of some common material or should I have the shop order me up one? Anyone have one from a parts machine?

Great job man, that was painful looking at the piston after that........Damn was what I said out loud. lol! Glad you were able to get it fixed up, 150 psi is a great number to start with. I WISH I would have taken my compression tester to the shop as I wanted to see what boost of compression I'd get with a base gasket delete. Reason I said bring Mine was because apparently after 30 years of being in business my Boss STILL doesn't have a stinkin compression tester that fits a chainsaw! :bash::BangHead: .....Anyhow, I did put the plug in and pull it over a couple times....I was thinking in my head around 160 or 170. haha Course I put the base gasket in and immediately it felt a bit lower.....saddening. Looking forward to putting a gauge on it tomorrow to see if our numbers match. lol I will be sure to get that pad as mine doesn't have it either. still gotta order some small misc parts and the light bar anyhow. Should be testing firing tomorrow though.
Max flow and dual port will be next after I run a few tanks though the saw for sure....tired of spending money on it. lol

Made some cuts with it again this morning. It sure sounds lean to my ears, but I don't really know what I'm talking about anyways.. Maybe it's just an Mtronic thing.
I cut a few cookies and killed the saw mid cut on the last one.. This is what the plug looked like. New plug with about 10 minutes run time. Any thoughts? I'm thinking it looks ok. I pressure/vac tested it again and all holds well. P&C looked good and were wet.

Hard to say from plug pics. I don't usually trust plugs as the only indicator; theyre part of the story, tho.
Got a tach? My cousin's 441 sounds a bit lean wot and is what I call a bit high-strung. He said he tached it at 13,000 tho.

If you open up the exhaust ,i don't think you will need that plate ,it is there for the modern choked up exhaust ports .

Thanks guys. So do the Mtronic saws not four stroke as clearly out of the cut since the carb adjusts itself for max rpm always?

Put the highway piston and rings in tonight. Spent all evening getting the carb, new handle and rope and everything put back together. Excited to see if it'll start I filled the tank up with gas and then watched it all leak out from a bad cap. :(
I took off the air cleaner and dropped a few drops of Trufuel in the carb and two pulls later, sure enough it popped! Pulled again and it idled for a second. Dropped a few more drops in with the dropper and a pull later I was idling!
I'm pretty thrilled, this is my first time replacing a piston and cleaning a bad cylinder. This started as a box of parts and I wasn't too sure I could get it put back together let alone get it to start.
I still have more to do but now I have some confidence that my time isn't wasted! :band:

The one's I have ran seem to rev limit and not four stroke. These saws are set as lean as possible.

That's kinda what I was thinking, thanks for confirming that. No air leaks and it seems to run and idle steady so I guess I should just trust the technology and run the thing and see what happens!

Yep! Might take a gander at the piston and cylinder if you aren't certain. You try moving it side to side and picking it up and setting it down to see if there was fluctuation?

I did pull the muffler when I checked that plug, P&C looked good, still wet. I've flipped that thing all over and around, no fluctuations. I need to get some big wood under it and run the thing for a bit and check the plug, P&C again but I think I' good to go. I was just worried as I'm used to hearing four stroking at WOT, eases my mind knowing the Mtronics dont.

Got some time to run it today for a while. Bucked up a bunch of 18-22" rounds then went about noodling up some new bedding for the chicken coop. I'd run it for a bit, let it idle 5 or so minutes, run some more, shut off, start back up, idle, run, etc. Not a single hiccup with the Mtronic after a tank through it. This thing sips the fuel too.. My 036 would have used two tanks for what this cut today.
Pulled the muff after all the work was done, P&C looking great.
